Meet recent UCCS Office of Inclusive Services graduate, Grace, and her mom, Lisa. They both fondly reflect on Grace's four years as a college students and all the ways she has grown.

Grace studied animal nutrition and enjoyed spending time with all of her friends. When asked what she learned about herself during college, Grace says, "I learned I was totally capable and I love taking care of myself." Additionally, Grace had an experience of a lifetime during her senior year at UCCS when she was selected to be a Think College Policy Advocate in Washington DC. A Think College Policy Advocate is a leader in college inclusion and has the opportunity to talk with government officials about making college accessible for all. During her senior year Grace went to Washington DC with Kelly Haan, the OIS Campus and Community Coordinator. Together they wrote a blog about their trip and the wonderful learning experience they had advocating for other students with intellectual disability.

Grace said, "[Going to college] means the world to me. It is so amazing to have my own life." Now that she is graduated, Grace hopes to continue working for a local zoo and helping others learn about animals.

Lisa is a proud mom who continues to expect great things for Grace's life. When asked what advice she would give to other parents sending their students to college, Lisa shares, "Just expect that it's going to be better than you thought. And they're going to blossom!"
