UCCS Senior Spotlight: Caitlin

About Caitlin

In May of 2021 Caitlin will be graduating from UCCS. She is studying Early Childhood Education and is so ready to be an official graduate! She is looking forward to seeing her four years of hard work finally pay off.

Employment

Caitlin hopes to be able to work in an elementary school with children with disabilities and be a para or a teacher’s assistant. She will begin her career working at a KinderCare facility to get some exposure to what it is like working in a professional environment. Then she hopes to transition to working with kindergarten through second graders in a local school.

Social Life

Caitlin was ecstatic to get accepted to college and she loves the challenge of her classes and learning new things. Something that she loves about going to UCCS is that she gets to be around so many great staff and students. She appreciates how much help she gets from her mentors and how easy everyone is to talk to and get along with. She noted that the professors are very responsive and always provide help when needed. Her favorite class to be in has been College in Career where she learned more about independence, living on your own, finding a job, and managing money. She shared that she feels very included within the college community.

Advice

Caitlin would tell high school students to really enjoy their college experience once they are accepted. She also advises to take your strongest skill and put that toward what you study. Her strongest skill is art and creating things. She wants to be able to do this with kids in elementary schools. She says to always have a backup plan and be flexible with what you study.

Thoughts on Graduation

Caitlin is so excited to be able to graduate very soon and begin her career at KinderCare. She wants to be able to start her life post-graduation and gain independence and job skills that will eventually take her into working in a school with students with disabilities.
